Olbia's ZTL (Zona a Traffico Limitato) covers the historic centre between Corso Umberto I, Via Genova, Via Roma, and the harbour. It is enforced by automatic license-plate cameras 24/7 in summer (1 May–30 September) and during weekend evenings off-season. Fines start at €87 (€169 if paid late) and apply to all non-resident vehicles. The Comune di Olbia does not issue daily ZTL permits to tourists or short-stay guests — generic hotel and rental bookings do not qualify. The only reliable workaround for visitors is to park outside the ZTL and walk in. RENTAL12 operates a private secured parking facility at Via Sassari 20 (olbiaparking.it), exclusively available to RENTAL12 guests, just outside the ZTL boundary. Outside the zone, paid car parks include Multipiano Olbia (€1/hr) and Parcheggio Aeroporto Lunga Sosta; free street parking exists on Via Vittorio Veneto, Via Sardegna, and around Olbia stadium.

ZTL stands for Zona a Traffico Limitato, or "Limited Traffic Zone." These areas are common in Italian cities and are designed to protect the beauty and walkability of historic centers. In Sardinia, ZTLs are strictly enforced.
Cameras monitor ZTL entrances, and fines are issued automatically even if you’re unaware you've entered a restricted area. Fines often exceed €65 plus administrative fees.
If you enter a ZTL gate without valid authorization (for example, your plate is not registered for that time window), the fine is typically handled as a standard ZTL access violation.
Note: amounts can change by national updates and local handling. Always verify your specific notice details.
Do not rely solely on GPS. Look for the physical sign at the street entrance:
Covers Corso Umberto I, Via Regina Elena, and Piazza Margherita.
Enforces temporary ZTL rules around the main square and Marina. Heavily enforced in July & August.
Restricts vehicle access near the marina and main piazza. Evenings and weekends.
Multiple zones in Castello, Marina, and Villanova districts. Watch for narrow signs.

Generally, tourists cannot drive into ZTL zones unless their accommodation has registered the license plate with local police *before* arrival. Rental12 properties do not provide ZTL access because we have a safer alternative.

Our facility at Via Sassari 20 is gated, monitored, and allows you to walk to your apartment in 2-5 minutes.
✅ With this setup, you can drive into town, park safely, and walk to your apartment without ever passing a camera.
A ZTL (Zona a Traffico Limitato) is a limited traffic zone that restricts vehicle access to protect historic centres. In Olbia ZTL, cameras and signs mark the perimeter; entering without authorization can trigger fines.
ZTL hours vary by city. The Olbia historic centre ZTL is controlled by automatic cameras. If you see a green/active indicator or specific time windows on the sign, the ZTL is enforced.
Use parking near the Olbia ZTL and walk in, or obtain a valid permit. Guests at accommodations inside the zone should confirm if their host can register their vehicle in advance. For an easy option, consider our secure facility: Olbia Parking (Via Sassari 20).
Sometimes. If your accommodation is inside the Olbia ZTL, ask whether they can request a temporary ZTL permit. Without explicit confirmation, do not enter: cameras will record the plate and ZTL fines may follow.
Park just outside the Olbia ZTL (e.g., Via Sassari 20) and continue on foot for the historic centre. For beaches, drive directly from outside the centre to the coast.
